The University of Nebraska Lincoln will hold only one commencement per year starting next year. Midyear and summer graduates will join the spring ceremony. Regents approved the policy on Chancellor Zumbarge’s recommendation, citing rising work and costs.
KEARNEY NEB Nine Nebraska newswomen earned top honors in the National Press Women annual contest with Sharron Hollen and Minette Haudesheldt of the North Platte Telegraph finishing in the top ten nationally. Hollen won first in editorial and feature writing and third in weekend supplements, while Haudesheldt took first for a special agriculture article, second for a special agriculture edition and third for a general news story. Other Nebraska winners include Eleanor Seaberger Celia Heitman Dorothy Switzer Rhoda Chaloupka and Reva Evans in various categories reflecting strong state journalism across daily papers and specialty outlets.
Dr Eugene Nagel of the University of Miami Medical School warned two upcoming party conventions could tax local health services. Officials expect 50 000 to 75 000 demonstrators over two months prompting first aid tents and trained medics, with funds running into several million dollars to cover emergencies.

With 110 plans monthly submitted to the Environmental Control Department and a December 31 deadline, the plan end date may extend two more years. About 12 800 of 18 922 feedlots will need facilities. 654 plans had been filed by May 1, 434 approved, and 175 completed.
