Nearly 29,000 more U S troops to withdraw from Viet Nam
U S military officials said Phase IV of Nixon's withdrawal program begins, trimming about 29,000 troops in two months including last Marine combat units. In the Shaw Valley area, air and ground actions killed 21 Communists and five Americans were killed or wounded in a separate ambush near the A Shau Valley as U S helicopter crews struck bunkers and gun positions.

Area resident dies in wreck on Highway 14
A Fullerton area woman, 78 year old Jaude Smith, was killed Friday afternoon when her car collided with a truck at an intersection on Highway 14. Garry Nathan, 23, Madison, drove the truck. She is survived by husband Harvey of Wallerton and a son and daughter in Omana. Funeral will be 2 pm Monday at the Presbyterian Church in Fullerton with visitation Sunday at Herbo Pullerton Memorial Chapel. Also reported: James Carter, 21, Gibbon, killed Friday night on Highway 10 south of Hazard. another fatality for a cat strike in Cairo with name withheld pending relatives’ notification.

Eight Killed as Express Hits Freight Train in Austria
A Rome Vienna express rammed a stalled freight train in a small Austrian village rail station today killing eight and injuring at least twenty others. The passenger train carried 238 passengers. An Austrian newsman aboard, Walter Martinkovich, reported a terrifying scene likened to an air raid and noted he survived while many were killed on the rails. Authorities cited a failed switch as the freight train halted on rail one, the main route of the Rome Vienna express.
