In Bartow Ila, Charlie Smith, age 128, runs a peculiar variety store where nothing is for sale. Ptingsten lashes out at low farm prices
PLATTS CENTER Erhard Pringsten spoke at the NFC supper in Plate Center Auditorium to farmers and businessmen. He warned that farmers pay 8 to 10 percent interest to operate while returns are only 2.75 per week and they get nothing for labor. He cited 3 percent production growth but $800 million less income for farmers, and a 500 percent rise in farm debt. He argued farmers hold power beyond labor and industry if they act, and urged farm production be used to raise prices for themselves and neighbors. Dae Stavas of Columbus MC’d the event and introduced local officers and guests.
