Nebraska City man found guilty plea expected in trial

Testimony wrapped up in the manslaughter trial of Al Rodriguez Solorio of Del Rio Texas after he claimed self defense in the Dec 6 stabbing of Alfredo Yzaguirre of Nebraska City District Judge Walter Smith planned a Thursday 4 p.m. decision Solorio testified he fought over a knife after a night of drinking and a fight began near his home autopsy showed 14 wounds including critical hits to the heart and aorta The prosecution argued Solorio exceeded self defense and the Otoe County Attorney Bernard Spencer reduced the charge from first degree murder to manslaughter

Questionnaires for 1970 Census to be mailed

District Manager Eugene Bargman of Lincoln announced that 1970 Census forms will be mailed beginning March 28 to all area households. The forms ask seven person questions and 13 dwelling questions, with later five household samples adding population and housing items. Data are kept confidential by federal law. only totals are published.

Second degree murder charge dismissed in Valley case

A second degree murder charge against Thomas P. Mahony of Valley was dismissed after investigators found Mahony truthful in his account of the March 10 fatal shooting of David Day. Day was killed by a gunshot wound with Mahony found over the body and seen moving a gun. The investigation continues.
