Susan Loyd daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Loyd of Lindsay captured the Midwest Spelling Bee title in Omaha defeating Chris Ballew of Pisgah Iowa after 16 rounds of oral spelling. She earned an expense paid trip to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D C June 7 12 along with a new dictionary and watch. Katte County girl placed sixth in 1975.

county officials report an autopsy will determine the cause of death of 71 year old Peter J. Werner of St Edward after a tractor accident on a Platte County road.
