The letter notes 18 Columbuses and 28 Madisons across the United States amid ZIP code changes. It cites dozens of towns with similar names such as Monroes and Peters bu rs, listing quirky spellings and oddities in post office directories.
Mr and Mrs Merlin Feikert and sons Roy and Scott of Dorchester joined Mr and Mrs Don Lawson and daughters along with Chief Petty Officer Melvin and Mrs McElravy before leaving base for Hawaii on a three year assignment. Louis Dvorak of Prague and Mr and Mrs Charle Kingsley of Kan and Mr and Mrs Joe Vandera and Mrs Ernest attended events linked to Colorado State College in Greeley where daughter Mary participated. The Haight family of Pueblo welcomed a new granddaughter Julie Christina born to Elmer Haight’s family.
Washington UPI reports First Lady Mrs Richard Nixon marked her 58th birthday with a quiet White House family celebration. President Nixon and their two daughters gave gifts and a caramel iced cake with green flowers while tourists at Ely Nevada born Thelma Catherine Patricia Ryan in 1912. The First Lady preferred a small family gathering over a large party and planned summer travel to San Clemente California.

Dale Electronics announces Larry Berg has been promoted to wirewound center coordinator in the Wirewound Division. Ben Powley says Berg will oversee sales, scheduling and inventory switch production. Berg, from Meadow Grove, a Wayne State College graduate, served five years in the Air Force and previously supervised production at Dale. He and his wife Kay attend Trinity Lutheran Church and are building a home in Columbus.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Phillips and family returned from a visit with their daughter and son in law in Springfield Massachusetts. They attended the baptism of the infant son of Mr and Mrs Dulin Bullard.
A Sunday explosion at a small cement block building used for sorting reges killed five people and injured two others. Herbert Sisson, 29, died at Tlamiltan Memorial Hospital. Keith Rutherford, 12, Sheila Rutherford, 14, Tom Sisson, and John Tolland, 72, were among the dead. Bobby Sisson, 27, and his son Robert, 7, were injured and hospitalized at Hamilton Hospital. Authorities say a gas line and a butane heater sparked fumes inside the block house during a gathering at the Charles Henderson farm where Bobby Sisson worked under a contract to gather eggs. The six others reportedly joined Sisson for an evening activity.
Creston reports Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller of Leigh observe their twenty year wedding anniversary with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Indra of Clarkson and Mr. and Mrs. Welton Henke along with Wayne and Judy Hanek noted in the community notice.
Oil slick from Chevron Charlie platform stretched up to 10 miles north of the Gulf, with 30 miles east of Venice, as Coast Guard and Chevron crews worked around the clock. Weather forecast predicted wind shifts that could drive the slick toward shrimp grounds. skimming barges contained much of the spill but three wells remained active. Chevron planned to cap No 1 well today.
UPI reports John Hember, 22, an attendant at Hol Way Service Station in Lincoln, was wounded by a gunman during a 3 a.m. holdup. He is in satisfactory condition at Bryan Memorial Hospital. Two men fled with the cash drawer. the amount taken is undetermined.
