Expanded corridor study begins for Fremont to Omaha US 275
Work starts on the Fremont to Omaha US 275 corridor study. Thomas Doyle says the expanded study will supplement the original, with Kirkham Michael and Associates of Omaha handling analysis. The expansion covers I-680 from US 73 to Maple Street, extending northwest to the Washington Douglas county line and west to the original area. It will examine traffic, environmental, and land-use impacts and study an alternate freeway alignment. A corridor report is planned for late August 1971 with a public hearing in Fall 1971.

Nebraska electoral plan bill sparks debate in legislature
Lincoln lawmakers debated a proposal by Sen Gerad Stromer to divide Nebraska’s five electoral votes into one per each of two congressional districts and two for the statewide winner, arguing it would edge toward direct voting while opponents warned it undermines popular presidential election and U.S. Supreme Court guidance. The committee voted 43 to kill the rival plan and to leave the current system. The same session also rejected making the state treasurer an appointive post, a move criticized as akin to communism.
