Bob Brase of Shelby assembled a sporty kit car called the Laser 917 in Bud Adamy’s shop last winter. The fiberglass body is molded in Minneapolis and mounted on a European chassis with tweaks. Brase claims 37 mpg and a offered price of 7000 dollars was refused.
London dealers paid 146700 for five Churchill paintings at Christie's. The sale set three world records, with two works by Churchill and pieces including a Chartwell swan scene and a portrait of Lady Churchill and her daughter Sarah. Proceeds aid Clementine Churchill's financial needs.
In Class A Omaha Burke defeated Omaha Central 46 to 37 as Lincoln East posted a 44 to ? win over Lincoln High. Class B Lexington beat Loup City 46 to 27 and York won 52 to 45 over Lincoln Plus X. Class C St. Cecilia downed Valley West Point 52 to 43. Class D Shickley 29 over Butte 18 and Diller 37 beat Overton 34.
Dean Divis of Columbus and Eydie Weber of Albion are among 10 Nebraskan delegates selected for the 4-H Labo International Exchange to Japan. They will depart July 20 for a month living with host families, while 175 Japanese youths stay in Nebraska. The program has run since 1947 under the Nebraska Cooperative Extension Service.
Terry Higginbotham of Columbus received a three to five year sentence at the Nebraska Penal Correctional Complex for auto theft. Charles Adkins pleaded guilty to breaking and entering in a farm burglary case and was ordered to the correctional complex for evaluation.
