Pickets disperse as rail strike looms then called off
In Omaha and Council Bluffs the observed strike pickets dispersed by morning. About a dozen shopcraft union members staged a brief greeting outside UP headquarters, signaling sympathy with the Sheet Metal Workers Union which had not been notified of the nationwide rail strike. The UP spokesman reported no abnormal absenteeism and two UP streamliners were not held. Earlier, 380 workers walked off with the nationwide strike Congress seeking to prohibit it for 37 days.
