Winter storm watch posted for Nebraska to Tuesday night
A low pressure system in eastern New Mexico was to move northeast into Kansas and possibly western Nebraska. Forecasters canceled initial warnings and issued a watch for tonight and Thursday as cold arctic air produced sub freezing highs and scattered snow flurries across eastern Nebraska.

Street sign thefts rise in Columbus prompt warning
City Street Commissioner Larry Byrnes urged residents to report sign thieves as thefts of stop and no left turn signs grow. About 20 signs are destroyed monthly costing at least 22.50 each, totaling about 450 monthly and 5400 yearly. Byrnes cited stolen signs south of Silver Creek and on 8th Street, noting a dangerous risk and potential penalties from 100 to 500 dollars and up to 30 days in jail plus restitution.

Platte County residents must file new homestead exemption applications with County Assessor Mona More by April 1, 1976. Eligibility includes owner occupants 65 or older or those who turn 65 this year with income limits, veterans totally disabled by nonmilitary causes, and spouses 65 or over. Exemption covers 100 percent of the first 15 000 of actual value on a residence and up to one acre.
