NRD ruling seen affecting Nebraska water districts modestly
The Lancaster County District Court ruling will have very little impact on NRD implementation. Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Commission attorney Lee Orton said NRDs will take over duties July 1 but cannot liquidate smaller districts. Judge Hastings barred using merged districts assets beyond their operation level and paused larger expenditures until the case is resolved, likely a year. The decision is expected to be appealed to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
