Elvin A. Adamson, 50, former Nebraska Legislature speaker, will become state director at large for the Farmers Home Administration eight-state area including Nebraska. He currently serves as deputy to the assistant secretary for marketing and consumer services. The eight-state post starts August with headquarters in Lincoln. United Press International reports sunny skies and heat as violent weather swept the country. Minnesota endured tornadoes and damaging winds of 50 to 70 mph with hail, uprooted trees, and damaged trailers. New Mexico saw gusts to 75 mph in Roswell and 64 mph in Albuquerque while an Ogallala Nebraska tornado shattered windows of cars outside a hotel.
