Vote to end cuban refugee airlift ends debate
The Senate Appropriations Committee voted to terminate the airlift at month end, ending Cuban refugee flights to the United States. Chairman Allen J. Witen der said entrants would continue under normal immigration rules, at their own expense, sharply curtailing refugee intake. Since 1966 the program aided about 650,000 Cubans, costing about five million dollars annually. The measure redirects funds to other government programs in the coming fiscal year.
