Platte County Fair Moves Earlier Dates For Bicentennial Year
The 37th Platte County Fair runs July 15 to 18 with an extra day in this bicentennial year. Activities include 4 H and FFA shows, a Wednesday dance, teen dances, tractor pulling contests, Joie Chitwood Auto Daredevils, and livestock sales on Monday after exhibit release. The Platte County Ag Society sponsors the event.

Time capsule planned for July 4th in Columbus
The 3x3x5 stainless steel capsule will be buried in Frankfort Square until 2056. Lloyd Castner leads the project and seeks small keepsakes from local industries farms and clothing makers. Dozens of photos of area children will be included with names and birth dates. Items may be dropped at City Hall or the Chamber of Commerce office.

Lincoln man receives death sentence in coin shop murder
Wesley Peery 51 was sentenced to death by a three judge panel for slaying Mrs. Mitzner in her coin shop and stealing coins. The court gave a concurrent 16 to 50 year term on a second robbery count.
