Senate would expand tax breaks for housing

The Senate votes to extend the $2,000 tax credit for new homes under construction before Thursday. The plan would allow buyers of such homes to claim 3 percent of cost, up to $2,000, for homes built between March 26 and June 19.

Sedlak’s barbecue craft feeds thousands at St Isidore feast

Joe Sedlak, a Nebraska pit master with 30 years in the business, plans a St. Isidore Church barbecue to feed about 3000. He builds 12 by 8 by 4 foot pits, uses 25 gallons of sauce, and covers meat with dirt to pressure cook for days. He also roasts turkey with the beef, works by phone when traveling, and has organized large feeds across Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

Harvest Under Way in Kansas Amid Weather Relief

Good weather allowed full scale wheat harvesting in southern Kansas and limited cutting as far north as Barton County. Yields vary with 20 to 25 bushels per acre in rain impacted areas while other fields reach 30 to 35 bushels. Officials note southeast Kansas faces standing water delaying start until next week.
