Favor extending tax deduction to carrying charges on installments
A proposal by Representative John C. Watts of Kentucky seeks to allow deduction of carrying charges on installment purchases when these charges are separately stated in contracts. National Federation of Independent Business members favor the bill by a wide margin, with 62 percent in support nationally and Nebraskan poll results showing 52 percent in favor. The measure would not alter Truth in Lending rules but would clarify that carrying charges can be treated like interest for tax purposes.
