Bishop Holter to retire from Methodist leadership in July

A four day rain period from May 21 to 24 produced 2.93 inches, lifting May totals to 3.29 inches and bringing temperatures close to normal. The month’s extremes were 27 and 91 degrees, with an average high of 72.9 and a mean temperature of 60.6 degrees, about 1.1 degrees below normal.

Holiday toll tops estimate on Memorial Day weekend
United Press International reports the 1972 Memorial Day period carried a high traffic toll. About 80 people died on highways, with California blame toward heavier traffic and speeding. Fatal incidents included a North Carolina crash killing three, two plane crashes in Illinois, and several other deaths, pushing the toll above initial estimates. The Safety Council had predicted 10 to 400 deaths during the period.

Blasts rock army center in Frankfurt
