17 year old hijacker arrested after Tokyo airliner incident
A 17 year old high school sophomore Hijacked an All Nippon Airways jet shortly after takeoff from Tokyo en route to Hokkaido or Hawaii. He was overpowered by security officers at the airport with no injuries reported among the 286 aboard. Authorities identified the suspect as Hidekatsu Oshima and said the act was spontaneous.

Weekend crash spree leaves few serious injuries reported
A full report details multiple weekend accidents in Columbus and surrounding areas. Barbara Bloebaum of 563 12th Avenue collided with a semitrailer on Sard Avenue, sending Bloebaum and her 19 month old nephew Chad Blaebaum to Behlen-County Hospital. Truck driver Richard Melich of Omaha was uninjured. Damages to the northbound vehicles reached 90. Other incidents included Michael Prokopek, 18, injured in a gravel and vehicle rollover on 2nd Street between 24th and 28th Avenues, with about 75 damage. Two people sustained minor injuries in an 11th Street collision and two others were hurt in a separate 18th Avenue incident. The Platte County Sheriff logged six weekend accidents, two with injuries, including a right elbow and forehead injury to a passenger in a vehicle driven by Stuart Osten. Additional hit and run and property damage cases were reported across Newman Grove, Humphrey, and surrounding routes.
