Mission work halted amid Indian protest and arson at Winnebago
In Winnebago Nebraska work on an addition to St. Augustine's Indian mission stopped after a labor dispute escalated into protests. Firebombings damaged a home economics building and hay stacks while police investigated possible links to discriminatory hiring claims. The town’s small police force resigned and then partly returned amid council talks on adding an officer.
