Charles Korsten Bt of Stanton died July 18 in a Norfolk hospital. Funeral services were conducted at St Peter Catholic Church in Stanton. Burial at Blanton Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 88 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4602. Survived by widow Anna, four children and four grandchildren among others. He was a World War I veteran and retired farmer.
Columbus Police logged eleven accidents with one minor injury across the weekend and a late Tuesday report. Incidents involved multiple drivers on streets such as 23rd Street, 48th Avenue, and 17th Street with damages ranging from 25 to 3,000 dollars and injuries including a cut nose.

A two injured trio from a single vehicle crash on a county road north of Able near David City were taken to local hospitals. Driver Tom Mefford, 22, remained hospitalized with facial injuries after transfer to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, while Jin Stewart, 20, was moved to Schuyler Municipal Hospital with less severe injuries.
