Canadian Officers Describe Viet Cong Captivity
Two Canadian ICCS officers Capt. Jan Patten and Capt. Melcher Thomson told a Saigon press conference they were marched through the jungle bound by hands and neck and endured sleep deprivation and interrogations while held in the Xuan Loc area for 17 days. They said they were treated humanely overall but faced harassment and some physical roughness during the eight hour march and subsequent questioning. They and two Vietnamese locals were released after the ICCS team’s captivity ended.

Omaha school board poised to deny desegregation charge
Omaha Nebraska officials prepare to deny a Justice Department desegregation charge. Board President Joseph Hart Jr reports the board may request more time to study integrative programs while resisting a court-ordered plan. The department seeks commitment to integrate at least five schools and address nine others seen as predominantly Black. Hart cites district fault rather than intent and says a majority may resist court action.
