Columbus to keep tax levy near prior year with modest rise

Columbus will maintain the 1976 77 tax levy at 20.97, up 0.06 from the prior year, based on an estimated valuation of 43 million. The budget hearing is set for July 21 at 8 p.m. in council chambers to hear resident input.

Platte County Fair Offers Free Entertainment and Rides

The 36th Platte County Fair opens with a 7:30 p.m. K T record hop and ongoing grandstand programs through Sunday, concluding Monday with the junior livestock sale. Dale T. Thomas Shows & Rides provide midway entertainment, livestock entries close at 10 p.m. today, and a Bicentennial themed public worship, voter registration booth, and various exhibits accompany the event.

City Pool Sees Strong June Attendance and Revenue

June reports show 11 952 swimmers visited the city pool up from 9 288 last year bringing in 6 272 55 dollars in revenue versus 4 696 80 last year. The Board praised the Frankfort Square flower project while noting some blooms fading. The Family Y and Platte College Community Service Office won use of the Pony League field for flag football and a 10 dollar daily fee was set for men and girls fast pitch district play in July and August.

Nebraska Weather Brief Omaha Tuesday Heat Record

Nebraska weather reports show Omaha reaching 99 degrees while Alliance logged 78 and Chadron 55 to 75 in varied lows. Skies were clear to partly cloudy with light winds. spotty showers occurred in central northeast Nebraska, Gothenburg received 1.65 inches, and Kilgore area recorded 1.2 inches. Livestock safety index remained in danger in southeast Nebraska with southwest winds increasing exposure.

City Launches Water Conservation Voluntary Plan

City officials initiate a voluntary water conservation program in Columbus. City Administrator Lloyd Castner urges residents to water lawns only on even or odd days based on house numbers and to limit amounts to a few gallons until rainfall resumes.

Nebraska Vocational Agriculture Instructors Gather for Summer Conference

Nebraska vocational agriculture instructors from across the state register at Platte College for a three day summer conference of the Nebraska Vocational Agricultural Association. About 190 educators and spouses are expected to attend with workshops, committee meetings, guest speakers, banquets and the annual business meeting. A preconference orientation for new members was held Tuesday. A recognition banquet is set for Thursday night with business sessions concluding Friday.
