Israel raids frees 104 hostages in Entebbe rescue

Israeli commandos stormed Entebbe airport in Uganda and freed 104 hostages. Seven hijackers were killed along with 20 Ugandan soldiers and three civilians. The raid lasted under 10 minutes and involved paratroopers flying from Tel Aviv.

Disturbance at Platte Center After Reported Car Pedestrian Incident

Platte County deputies and state troopers responded to an early morning disturbance in Platte Center linked to a reported car pedestrian incident. Lebanon parties agree to secret talks for cease fire

Arab League Secretary General Mahmoud Abbas via Yasser Arafat reported that Lebanon's major parties agreed in secret peace talks to begin negotiations toward a cease fire. The four hour meeting at Safar near Beirut was the first step in an Arab solution to the Lebanese crisis.

Right of way negotiations begin on Highway 30 in Columbus

The Nebraska Department of Roads says right of way talks start July 6 for a project on Highway 30 in Columbus. Plans call for widening 33rd Avenue between 22nd and 34th Streets to four lanes with medians including a viaduct widening. Don Schulz of Lincoln is the assigned negotiator. The effort aims to complete Highway 30 as a four-lane route and considers a future bypass improvement on 23rd Street between 33rd Avenue and Mason Road.
