Dehydrated alfalfa trial at UNL evaluates dairy rations
Lincoln Nebraska University researchers led by Foster Owen test dehydrated alfalfa in corn silage based complete rations for dairy cows. Cows on the four month study show good palatability and dry matter intakes around 3.7 to 3.9 pounds per 100 pounds body weight. The program uses nitrogen sources including urea and soybean meal in two formulations and combines urea with dehydrated alfalfa in a single pellet.
