Ban on Women as Roman Catholic Priests Endorsed by Pope
The Vatican published an 18 page declaration by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith affirming that women cannot be priests because Christ was a man. It argues that the priest acts in the image of Christ and stresses gender differences over equality. The document, approved by Pope Paul VI, notes genuine vocation debates among women.
