Red Cross Bloodmobile Visits Platte County

The Red Cross Bloodmobile stops at Platte County Agricultural Park February 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and February 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rita Fleischer urges volunteers to help keep blood supplies adequate for surgeries and emergencies. Donors must be 17 to 65, in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and unmarried 17 and 18 year-olds need parental consent.

Albion family manages exotic menagerie on 36 acre ranch

STAN LINHORST reports on the Merten family near Albion who house more than 250 exotic animals across 4 breeds including golden pheasants and India blue peacocks. The collection began about 30 years ago and now features birds, goats, sheep, and horses with much stock for sale within 50 to 100 miles. liability costs prevented a zoo plan.

Award of Merit given to NPPD for energy education efforts

The Federal Energy Administration honors Nebraska Public Power District with an Award of Merit for consumer education and energy conservation programs. D.W. Hill accepts for NPPD as Region VII administrator Neil Adams lauds commitment and communication. Platte road plans okayed by Platte County supervisors

About two dozen Platte County residents attended the meeting led by Highway Superintendent Darwin Anderson. Supervisors gave initial approval to the hard surf plan but require cost estimates before final approval. A proposed lease for space in the Hall of Justice by Columbus City and Platte County will be reconsidered at the next meeting.

Norfolk Swine Show Entries Open for 13th Year

Norfolk entries are available at County Extension Offices for the 13th annual Norfolk Swine Show set for Feb 24 and 25. The live show begins 9 a.m. Feb 24 at the Norfolk Livestock Market judged by Roger Kubicek of Mead. The Carcass Show occurs Feb 25 at Roman Packing Co judged by Jim Wise of UNL. Exhibitors may view carcasses Feb 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

Carol Syslo Named Mothers March Chairman for 1977

Tony Nielsen announces Carol Syslo of Columbus will head the Platte-Butler March of Dimes Mothers March. The campaign begins Saturday with en velopes collected door to door. Hogs are judged in four classes and a Carcass Show selects winners. remaining hogs sell at auction on February 26.

Community Rallies Around Fire Victims In Rural Missouri Home

Mrs. Armentrout and her husband faced loss after a night fire destroyed their Leigh home. Neighbors and Columbus Manor residents plus Red Cross provided furniture, washing machine, and support. The couple, with 34 years of marriage, rebuild aided by Leigh Garden Club Lions Club and Federated Church.
