Plane lands on Santa Anita track after feature race
At Santa Anita Park in Arcadia California a home made single engine aircraft made an emergency landing on the track after the San Carlos Handicap feature race. Deputy Eldon Johnson forced the landing when propeller issues arose. No injuries or damage reported and the final race proceeded after a short delay.

Bob Gilder, a 25 year old rookie from Corvallis, Oregon, won the Phoenix Open by two strokes over Roger Maltbie. Gilder finished 16 under par 268 after a final round 67, claiming $40,000 and the start of a likely strong tour run. Maltbie tied for third after a late rally, earning $22,800.
