Meals on Wheels proves successful first year in Columbus
The Columbus Meals on Wheels program marks its first year of service begun January 13 1975 delivering nearly 3000 meals. Twelve recipients currently receive meals with about 35 benefiting over the year. The program relies on volunteers and a $1.50 per meal charge, coordinated by Churchwomen United Behlen Community and Multi County Service Unit 143.

Waste transfer station opens Friday with new fees
The city opens a solid waste transfer station Friday at 8 a.m. near the Loup River dike to compact and ship garbage to the Duncan landfill. Fees include 60 cents for cars, 1.75 for pickups with sideboards, 3 dollars for four wheel trailers, and 65 cents per cubic yard for garbage trucks. Punch cards and a landfill permit for non residents are required.

Loup Power District Reports 1975 Generation Drop
Loup generation fell to 108.8 million kWh in 1975 due to drought and upstream irrigation diversions. The Columbus powerhouse, Nebraska’s largest hydro plant, has operated since 1938 and remains efficient. Loup supplies power to 23 towns and purchases all energy from NPPD.
