In Omaha Nebraska AP reports Mingie Sorenson Fries aged 95 became beneficiary of two life insurance policies taken out in 1928 with Mutual of New York. A company spokesman noted the odds against living to 95 were about 50,000 to one, and the policies paid the face value plus accumulated dividends and interest.

Voters decide on Lt. Gov. presiding status in May

In Lincoln Nebraska voters will decide in May whether the lieutenant governor should remain presiding officer of the Legislature. The Legislature approved a constitutional amendment by a 465 to 0 vote. A similar amendment had previously failed.

Automakers report 70 day stockpile of new cars

States cut speed limits curb highway deaths in November

Washington reports a 19 percent drop in highway fatalities in 16 states that lowered speed limits while the rest of the nation shows a 2 percent decline. Voboril brothers exhibit at National Western Stock Show

Amtrak Texas Chief Derailment Injures Forty Five

Amtrak derailed near Ardmore Oklahoma on Monday injuring 45 people. The Texas Chief passenger train left the tracks and several cars caught fire. About 29 were treated and released, 16 hospitalized, including Don Summers of Arlington Texas. Five tank cars carried naptha and chlorine fumes forced evacuation within a half mile. Witnesses recalled a terrifying tilt as cars slid and people clung on.
