Two stumbling blocks in Chrysler wage pact talks
DETROIT. The United Auto Workers says retroactivity of first year wage increases and pay raises for unionized salaried workers are the two main obstacles in reaching a three year contract with Chrysler Corp. A strike deadline of Jan. 18 was set for 12404 members. The union warns of possible reprisals if the company strikes to trim inventory while a settlement remains possible. Chrysler counters that it seeks ratification timing for new terms and denies using inventory as leverage.
