Scotus freshmen top Schuyler by five points

Scotus Central Catholic freshmen improved to 6-1 after a 62 39 win at Schuyler on Monday. Greg Grubaigh led with 23 points and Jay Jucker added 21 for the Shamrocks. Schuyler’s P Harvis had 10, while Conrad Shesarski 7 and John Toof 6 paced the losing side.

Morehead State grid boss resigns to join Maryland

John J. Hallam head football coach at Morehead State University since 1968 resigned to become assistant coach at the University of Maryland. He, 33, posted a four year record of 22.1 in four years at the helm and will join Maryland coach Jerry Claiborne's staff.

Waterfowl season ends in Nebraska amid poor purse

Lincoln Nebraska UPI reports the closing of the duck hunting season marks the end of waterfowl hunting in the state. The season began disappointingly as early flights bypassed Nebraska just before the October 4 opener. Aside from a late October flurry, hunting success was sparse statewide with fair weather keeping birds bunched on refines and large lakes. a wintry blast in the final week slightly improved western conditions.

Lack of cover endangers Nebraska wildlife habitats

Lincoln UPS report by the State Game Commission warns that a shrinking supply of cover threatens Nebraska wild species. Woodlots and cover patches are being bulldozed or burned at alarming rates, with some clearing done for farming but much to tidy spaces. The "gores for wildlife" program recruits landowners and cover agents to create and maintain habitat, offering limited material rewards but shared satisfaction for helping wildlife.
