North Vietnam launches new push across Indochina fronts

Vang Pao’s Meo guerrillas retreated from Long Cheng after artillery strikes, as Communists moved into Cambodia’s rubber country northwest of Saigon amid a South Vietnamese withdrawal and heavy shelling of allied bases. Authorities fear a two pronged highland and Krong area offensive could strain South Vietnamese reserves. The DMZ area saw intensified mortar fire and the bombardment reportedly damaged military facilities at Long Cheng. The withdrawal marked a serious setback for the government.
