Chicago livestock futures show mixed results with CATTLE contracts around 44.00 to 45.60, AUG and other months trading in the 42.00 to 45.60 range. Dow Jones industrials and trans and utilities indices reflect modest moves at 2 p.m. with varied fractional changes in the 0.35 to 2.13 point area.
Market notes from Omaha Neb detail bids on rags barrows and gilts up 75 to 100 higher with various weights quoted. Cattle and calves crowd limited with steers and heifers in short supply, cows steady to weak. Sheep slaughter lambs steady and other classes scarce as receipts estimate Monday show hogs 3,000 cattle 6,000 and sheep 1,000.

In Lincoln, about 11,000 people, mostly women, packed a four hour hearing on Nebraska's bid to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. About 600 filled the chamber. others listened in the rotunda and corridors as the committee adjourned without action amid strong debate, with protests and counterviews from both sides.

Nebraska committee debated LB366 to bar retail liquor below cost, defining cost as retailer price plus 12 percent overhead and profit. LB56 would set a five cent refund value for reusable containers and ban pop tops, backed by Senator Fowler and supporters but opposed by liquor retailers and wholesalers who warn of price hikes and business losses.
