Platte Choir in Choral Festival at Tarkio College

The Platte College Choir of Columbus joins four colleges and five high schools for the second annual Choral Festival at Tarkio College March 14 15. Guest conductor Dr William D Hall of Chapman College leads a mass choir and conducts a clinic the next day.

Omaha Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in San Francisco

Eugene Buss Jr. 21, arrested in San Francisco, charged in a Feb 11 Omaha bank holdup that netted about $2000. Also charged are Yvonne Chamberlain 18, Daniel Chamberlain 21, Kenneth Johnson 48, and Michael Kruse 19, all of Omaha. some stolen money has been recovered.

Courtroom arraignments and sentences listed in County Court

Ricky Hansen arraigned on two forgery counts. bond continued, preliminary hearing Feb 19. William Goetz Jr arraigned for minor in possession, pled not guilty, trial set March 1, released on recognizance. Russell Adams arraigned for DWI, pleaded guilty, presentence investigation ordered, no sentencing date, released on recognizance. Robert Sutherland arraigned on reckless driving and operator’s license issues, pleaded not guilty and guilty respectively, trial March 12, released on recognizance. Norman Scheer sentenced for driving under suspension, six months probation, license revocation one year, $100 fine plus costs, must take defensive driving. Michael Dughman fined $10 speeding, $10 expired license, four days jail for failure to appear, plus court costs.

Chemical Bank cuts prime rate to 8 1 percent

NEW YORK UPI reports Chemical Bank reduces its prime loan rate for business loans to 8.1 percent from 9 percent making it the lowest prime rate among major U.S. banks today.

Good Friday Plans Set by Boone County Ministers

Rev C H Baalson, president of the Boone County Ministerial Association, names Rev Lester Anderson Rev Douglas Zurek and Rev J F Kunce to a Good Friday committee. The theme General Themes of the Cross features six clergy as five minute speakers on March 28 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church Albion.

Supreme Court to rule on tax returns as evidence

The Supreme Court agreed to decide if illegal income tax returns may be used in criminal trials. The case involves Roy D. Garner, who challenged the use of his tax filings in a gambling case, with lower courts split on whether the information was self incriminating. The high court will hear arguments on the interplay of the Fifth and Sixth Amendments and admissibility of tax records.

Banks hearing reopens today in Custer County

Law enforcement circles the Custer County Courthouse as Dennis Banks case resumes. A decision on delaying the riot arson and conspiracy trial was anticipated, with Banks' lawyers seeking a June postponement while police from Rapid City and the state patrol manned entry points.

Chicago police arrested Leon Hollis 38 owner of Mothers Barbecue on gambling establishment charges. Forty three customers including 11 women faced gambling and gun possession charges. Police described scene as looking like Las Vegas. Amended Lincoln Nebraska legislature moves to ask voters to repeal the constitutional requirement for word by word reading before final vote.

New York UPI reports the National Weather Service records the lowest temperature today outside Alaska and Hawaii as 10 degrees below zero in Jackson Wyoming. Monday’s high reached 7 degrees in Fort Myers and Daytona Beach Florida.
