Markets from Omaha Nebraska show mixed livestock quotes with hogs and cattle varying. Cattle demand remains uneven with steers strong and heifers steady, while hogs and sheep see price moves and near-term receipts are forecast for Tuesday including cattle calves hogs and sheep totals.
Canadian officials in Boston and Ottawa report at least 14 495 New Englanders have left for Canada since 1966. Younger migrants head to Toronto area for opportunities while Vietnam era pull faded. Officials note 1973 may be the peak year for applications to Canada through April 1 last year to January this year.
A St. Joseph woman, Maxine Wood, will be moved from Richardson County jail to the York Women’s Reformatory for trial on March 27. She faces charges of resisting a law officer with a deadly weapon, stealing a car, and fleeing arrest, linked to the Feb. 2 fatal crash involving William Kolsonis, 19, who was shot by officers.
Four members of a Pueblo family died when their light plane crashed about 200 yards east of the Pueblo Memorial Airport runway. Identified as Chris Ghre, his wife Nancy, and their two preschool children, they were pronounced dead at the scene. The plane appeared to bounce on final approach with no prior radio trouble.
OMAMA Neb AP Omaha Police Chief Richard Andersen says he wants to shut down big time bookies but his hands are tied by existing misdemeanor rules. He calls for a state law to make second or third offenses felonies. Douglas County Attorney Ronald Knowles says a targeted felony law could be written and would not oppose it.

More than a thousand Cuban refugees marched peacefully through downtown Miami on Sunday. They held signs rejecting “We do not want liberty with dishonor” and “Cuba will not be a pawn of big world powers” as they linked detente with the Soviet Union to possible changes in Cuba’s blockade. Lea Vieta of Abdala said the demonstration spoke for enslaved Cubans, while Rev. Martin Anorga warned detente would be immoral. The march preceded a foreign ministers meeting in Mexico City with Kissinger.
The Treasury Department says it has ended Secret Service protection for former Vice President Spiro Agnew as of midnight Sunday. Treasury Secretary George P. Shulte ordered the end, while Agnew, then visiting singer Frank Sinatra in Palm Springs, was not immediately confirmed to have left. Arnold cited the decision, drawing congressional criticism over ongoing protection after Agnew’s resignation and tax case.
In Omaha, a Northern Natural Gas spokesman said interruptible customers in seven states face supply declines and possible service termination by 1978. Howard Sorenson, the company's public information director, said cutbacks target power plants rather than homes or small businesses. Moscow says it will start testing advanced intercontinental missiles Tuesday from Feb 19 to March 10. Tass reports launches of carrier rockets from the Soviet Union to the South Pacific, seen as continuing prior experiments in independently targeted multiple warheads. The tests appear timed to influence the SALT talks in Geneva on offensive strategic arms limits.
Lincoln AP report says the Nebraska legislature voted to begin full day sessions on Friday, extending five weeks of all day meetings before the 60 day limit. Early in the session members met mornings and split into committees afternoons with two hearings set for Friday and four for next week.

Police report no major leads in the $200,000 cash theft from an International Armored Car Service truck in Somerset near the Rhode Island border. Three to four armed men cuffed guards, drove off with the truck, and a car, leaving about $200,000 in cash and $2 million in nonnegotiable checks. A state police spokesman warned the checks would be worthless to the culprits.
Rep. Gilbert Gude and John Moss will introduce a bill to provide up to 750000 for an official vice president’s home in Washington. Congress already authorized a home on the Naval Observatory grounds in 1966 but no funding was provided. The plan aims to save taxpayers ongoing security costs at private VP residences by funding a single government home.
