Swine producers to gather for ALM Park dinner Feb 9
Area swine producers are urged to attend the ALM Park Producers monthly dinner meeting February 9 at DonnMnic's Café in Selmnyler at 4 30 pm. Stan Schelho, Shickley, will discuss his swine operation and related topics of interest to six local producers. A series of five farm problem programs will be shown on educational TV starting February 2 at 8 pm with guides and multiple topics including which ways sow choices in federal programs and livestock management issues.

Seed cleaning urged to prevent weed contamination in Platte County
Platte County Weed Control Authority Supt. Karpn Eisenmenger says seed cleaning is essential as uncleaned grain or cracked soybeans are uneconomical. One barnyard grass plant can produce 80 000 seeds, crabgrass and Russian thistle seeds are costly, and clean seed testing is advised. Contact the county office to have seed cleaned.

A new UPI report says the Nixon administration sent Congress a farm bill proposal to continue surplus controls and price supports in a revised form. The bill caps federal payments, preserves overall aid near 3.5 billion dollars, and introduces a fixed acreage and market-based central plan to grant farmers more crop flexibility while guarding against sudden surpluses.

All Farm Commodity Index Rises Five Points in Nebraska
Lincoln UPI reports Nebraska all farm commodity price index up five points to 320 in mid January from 273 a year earlier. All crop index up slightly from December but down from last January. livestock index at 379 up six from December and 63 above January 1963. Corn 1.06 per bushel. oats 64 cents. wheat 1.21. rye 95 cents. Hog 26.70 per cwt. cattle 27.30. cattle, hogs and other prices show varying changes from last year. Sheep 7.10 per cwt. corn, oats, wheat, rye, hogs, cattle, and sheep noted with monthly and yearly changes.

December red meat production rises in Nebraska
LINCOSA UP I Commer cial red meat production totaled 271 million pounds in Nebraska in December, up 16 from November and 8 from December a year earlier. 1969 red meat output reached 3.085 million pounds, up 2 from 1968. Hog slaughter was 207,000 head, down 18, calves 700 butchered. Sheep and lamb slaughter totaled 65,060 head, down 1.
