Deadline set for Elks scholarships February 14
Clyde Simpson, scholarship chairman of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, announced that February 14 is the closing date for Elks National Foundation college scholarship applications. The foundation offers 538 scholarships totaling 397,600 dollars, with 200 awards from 700 to 2,500 dollars, plus 38 grants of 600 dollars each.

Nebraska Bag Company closes after pollution controls delay
The Nebraska Bag Company in Ralston says it has halted operations until pollution control devices are installed. The plant, a corn meal processing facility, has been closed since January 27 and was given until February 7 to complete the anti pollution systems. It will not reopen until the equipment is in operation.

In Paw Paw Michigan a 17 year old jail trusty Clarence Olsen asked Under Sheriff Mycon Southworth for the car keys to shovel snow outside the office. Southworth gave him the keys and Olsen was later arrested heading out on Interstate 4. A SLIC hearing was set for February 27, 1970 in Platte County Nebraska regarding a proposed case involving Carl H Hoge County Clerk.
