Arthur L Osten 67 of Creston died Thursday at his Creston home. He was manager of Farmers Coop Oil Co. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St John Lutheran Church 14 miles north of Columbus. Burial in St Job Cemetery follows a 1:18 prayer service. The body lies in state at Gass Haney Funeral Chapel after 1 p.m. Sunday and at church 1 to 2 p.m. Monday. He was born February 5 1904 in Platte County and married Alma Leifers February 19 1928. He farmed in Creston before moving there and was active in civic affairs including Creston village board clerk and fire department. He was a member of the Lions Club and St John Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife two children Larry and Mrs Harold Larson both of Creston six grandchildren three brothers and a sister Theodore Columbus Ernest Werner and Elsa Hellbusch Creston. Preceded by parents Louis and Melena Osten and an infant son.
In the Platte Center men’s league bowling event Schlitz team won with 2873, Monroe Grain second at 2856, Pile Drivers third at 2888. Jim Christensen led with 641 in singles and 1962 in all events, Wilbert Greisen was second in all events, and Bob Soulliere placed high. doubles winners were Kim Christensen and Dick Liebig with 1225, Soulliere/Wardeman second, Bruckner/Soulliere third.
DUPLEY England a town council refused a 20800 request from Dudley Zoo to remodel tiger cage sleeping quarters to promote breeding. The decision blocks a plan aimed at increasing tiger reproduction at the popular wildlife facility.
Births recorded at St Mary Hospital include a son to Mr and Mrs Liyan B Anderson of 1415 Ninth Street weighing five pounds fourteen ounces on February 3 and a son to Mr and Mrs Larry Muhte of Richland Rt 1 weighing seven pounds nine ounces on February 4. Admissions list includes Mrs Edward Swan Duncan Susan Valasek Joyce Brakenhoff Columbus and Anna Engel Silver Creek. Dismissals note several patients including Mrs Paul Meister Stomsburg and Mrs Terry Kroel and son Schuyler with others from Columbus Shelby and Rising City.
Mrs Iris Moran 59 died unexpectedly at home in Leigh. Funeral arrangements set at Holmes Rozanek Funeral Home. Wife of a retired Army major, native of Creston. They moved to Leigh last spring. Survived by husband, a brother Erroll Murphy, and two nephews from Canoga Park California.
Columbus Junior High releases the second quarter honor roll listing numerous ninth and seventh grade students by name. The document notes high honors achieved by a broad set of students including Marcus Anthony and James Schroeder among others, with many entries across two grade levels.
Joseph Kielbasa of Clarks died Thursday after two weeks illness at St. Francia Hospital in Grand Island. Funeral services set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Church, Clarks, with burial pending. Rosary Sunday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Survived by five daughters, four sons, 31 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother, four sisters. He was born June 17, 18 at Tarney and moved to Clarks in 1918.
A Genoa area accident near Highway 3A and a county road injured a youngster and caused heavy property damage. Ten year old Tom Crapta was treated for broken and chipped teeth after riding in a southbound station wagon driven by his father Clarence. the vehicle and a westbound truck operated by Charles Childers were extensively damaged. State Trooper T F Suey investigated the fatal loss of the station wagon.
In Eastleigh England Mary Welch reports her cat Dinky escaped a tumble in a spin dryer after a roughly 15 minute swirl. A veterinarian said likely the cat spun around about a few hundred times during the incident.

Marcella Feilings died Thursday at a Hastings hospital after prolonged illness and a heart attack. Funeral services will be Saturday at Holy Family Church Lindsay with burial in the parish cemetery. She was born October 12 1911 in Lindsay to Hubert and Goldie Ramackers. She married Lawrence Feiling in 1940 and lived in Wisconsin York Grand Island and Hastings. Surviving are her husband seven sisters and a brother.
Les L Siedschlag 64 of 2303 Eighth Street died Friday morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness Funeral services will be 10 am Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev B F Meschke officiating burial will be in New Lutheran Cemetery at Norfolk His body will lie in state at Gass Haney Sundige Home after 2 pm He was born April 21 1907 in Norfolk and married Elsie Siligman Feb 21 1990 They lived in Norfolk before moving to Columbus in 1957 Survivors include his wife two sons Duane of Omaha and Decry of Dallas Texas one sister Mrs Lillian Best of Pomona California and four grandsons A brother Reuben and Bisket Ida preceded him in death
A Boston doctor at a San Diego biomedical symposium proposed using metal filings and 108 radioactive isotopes for tracing blood flow. He argued magnetic blend tracings are easier cheaper and safer than current oral radioactive isotopes.
Bloodmobile visit to David City exceeded the 12 percent quota by 42 units with 175 donors enrolled and six rejections leaving 169 units received. Twelve donors achieved gallon status including Schroeder, Windrick, Remmers, Lieder, Kroesing, and Wonderbheck. ninety seven volunteers aided in preparation and during the visit.

Fullerton reports city council took no action this week. Offutt Air Force Base officer Sir John J. Rice, Omaha, faced charges after an January incident involving Ed Grella, police chief. Rice received fines totaling 256 dollars and a seven day jail suspender, plus 250 dollars on separate charges linked to a county fair altercation.
Funeral services for Floyd rival Napier age 66 who died at a David City hospital will be 2 pm Monday at United Methodist Church and Bellwood Cemetery. His body lies in state at Knott Funeral Home in David City. Born April 26 1905 to Roy and Anna Loveless Napier he married Bertha Langhurst and lived in the Bellwood area. Survivors include his widow sons Filey Jr and Jack brothers Lee Wilber and Hubert. Parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
City briefs report a fatal January 22 California car crash involving Gina Torrey, 16, of Thousand Oaks, with memorials for JaReina High School. Other items include marriage license filing for David Brethe and Bally Jane Avilk, swim classes starting February 7, and various community notices from churches, clubs, and police court fines. Also noted are death notices for Dave Babcock Ewing and services for Harry S Swanson.
One person was slightly injured in a rash of accidents investigated by Columbus police Thursday. Sharon Harms, 22, sustained a cut chin when her vehicle skidded on slick 16th Avenue, went into a ditch and struck a culvert. Earlier the auto was struck by a hit and run driver, causing $175 damage. Other accidents involved 13th Street, 26th Avenues, area 8, and multiple drivers from Platte Center, Shelby, David City, and local lots.
Comedy western Skin Game opens Sunday at the Columbus Theater for a four day run. James Garner leads the cast with Lou Gossett Susan Clark and Brenda Sykes in supporting roles. The plot centers on a con man posing as a slave owned by Garner as they travel and fleeced customers before former clients catch up.
A soldier who claimed he stole a carbine while serving in Korea sent back the rifle by mail to Ft Hood, Texas, with an anonymous letter stating My hands are washed clean. The weapon came from Huachuca City, Arizona, and the writer said Pye paid may debt.
