Caribbean bloc could swing inter American relations
In a column from the United Press International, Margaret Hyman argues that newly independent Caribbean nations are poised to form a potent bloc within the Organization of American States, challenging the current one nation one vote rule. The piece notes Grenada, Jamaica, Barbados and others may gain influence, with potential members like Guyana Bahamas and Antigua seeking full participation. It warns that changing the rule could fracture hemispheric unity or push Caribbean nations toward independence from the OAS.
