Acreage bargains blaze at New York land auctions

Public auctions in New York offer parcels from one quarter to 1,000 acres with minimum bids as low as 100 dollars. Foreclosure Land Bureau sells land acquired from foreclosures, banks, and estates with bidding in 25 dollar steps. Buyers must deposit 25 percent, have 14 to 45 days to inspect, and transfer occurs about 30 days after sale.

AEC member to speak at Nebraska Wesleyan University

The Atomic Energy Commission member Theos J. Tompson will appear at Nebraska Wesleyan University on March 13 for a nuclear science symposium. The event is part of the university's year of the sciences program. Tompson hails from Lincoln.

County Democratic meetings planned across Nebraska

Lincoln officials said a series of county Democratic party meetings will be held across Nebraska in January and February to map out plans for 1970. State Chairman Hess Dyas noted two meetings in the First District, one in the Second, and three in the Third, with a state executive committee meeting set for January 10 in Lincoln.

Larson Family to Host Christmas Dinner at Grand Island

Silver Creek reports Mr and Mrs Harold Martin and relatives, including Mrs Hilda Carlson and the Holmes family, will attend Christmas dinner at Cecil Larson's in Grand Island. Mothers urged to report bus defects to consumer adviser

Washington UPI report says Mrs. Virginia Knauer urged mothers of schoolchildren to report defects in 1969 GM buses. She asked mothers to talk with bus drivers about any problems and noted a bus operator reported a rash of maintenance issues. Investigations by the National Highway Safety Bureau and GM were announced. Montana's size note follows.

Two percent of Nebraska corn still unharvested

Lincoln UPI reports two per cent of Nebraska corn remains to be harvested as snow and muddy fields slow cleanup. Field work last week focused on harvesting with some stalk shredding. Frozen soil hindered tillage. winter wheat and rye are in good to excellent condition and soil moisture is adequate statewide. Feed grain supplies are adequate to abundant except in parts of the north central area. hay and forage supplies are adequate with some central and north central exceptions.

Miss BBC contest twists as judge disqualifies beauty

London reports the Miss BBC 1970 contest ruling after judge accepts a contestant named Eileen Hussey described as attractive but later revealed to be male. Alex Jussey admitted the entry was a gag and was disqualified.
