Houston Education Leader Pushes Early Preschool Plan
Dr George T P Oser, president of Houston school board, urges starting 4 year olds in public schools next fall to build sensory motor skills and pre reading through preschool play. He cites cost of repeating first grade and seeks federal funds to create 60 preschool centers for about 5000 first year enrollees. He argues early intervention can reduce dropouts and improve long term achievement.

Bernard Brenner reports Nixon's proposed reorganization would move most non farming programs from Agriculture to new federal departments including Human Resources and Natural Resources. The plan keeps core farm programs while Rural Development and food assistance shift elsewhere. FAA expects no major delays over holidays if weather cooperates, despite added flights by airlines and AMTRAK ramping up extra trains and cars for peak travel.
