Area residents hosting guests over Christmas and New Year across Rising City Bellwood and Silver Creek report crowded schedules. Dozens of families welcomed relatives from Blair Lincoln Columbus Omaha Stanton Fremont and beyond for dinners games and church events. Numerous wedding anniversaries and pre Christmas suppers mark the season as towns prepare for holiday gatherings.
Donald J Campbell who died December 16 was remembered in Saturday services at Oshkosh and Antelope Valley Cemetery. Born November 12, 1927 to Jesse O and Blanche Ranek Campbell, he grew up in Garden County, graduated Garden County High School in 1946, then the University of Nebraska in 1950. He was a pharmacist at Campbell Drug Store after moving to Oshkosh in 1933, married Elaine Hanak June 4, 1951, and belonged to multiple organizations including United Methodist Church, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Elks, and pharmaceutical associations. Survivors include his wife, Michael, Christie Kay, Cheryl Ann, Blanche Campbell, and sisters Florence Rounsberg and Edna Mae Albee.
Birth notices from Albion hospital list Whonda Sue Rasmussen a girl born December 14 to Lanny and wife of St Edward. Kevin Michael Redler a boy born December 16 to Jerome and wife of Albion. Kevin Bean a boy born with nine pounds four ounces to William and wife of Albion. A daughter to LaVerne and wife of St Edward weighs seven pounds nine ounces.
Columbian Squires presented Christmas gifts to residents of Columbis Manor and Marys Haven. Fruit and tissues were distributed to residents in a gesture of holiday giving.
Congressman Denney nominates 27 First District youths for 1971 appointments to Air Force and Military Academies. Five at each academy maximum. current Naval Academy slots filled. Nominees evaluated on Civil Service exams, academics, and community activities. all must pass rigid physicals.
Photo honors to Sgt Michael Strong son of Mr and Mrs Dahlkochler of Columbus has received honorable mention in Life Magazine prize winning series. Only 19 top prizes and 108 honorable mentions were awarded among 40 000 professionals and amateurs from some 500 000 entries. Strong receives a Life Library of Photography for his achievement. Now at Warren Air Force Base Cheyenne Virginia? the sergeant has long pursued amateur photography.
Creston residents arrange an afternoon Christmas party with a family supper at Mrs. John Johannnes home. Attendees include Johannes families from Leigh Columbus Red Olak Iowa Lincoln Clarkson Kansas City Madison Kearney Newnan Grove and others visiting Mrs. HG Loseke, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Moran, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Schindler with various relatives and friends hosting holiday events across multiple locations.
Leigh church announced two new council members Roger Litterman and Lester Hillen while retiring members Molycka and Kenneth Eisenmann. Rev Turner will move from Neatrice to Leigh to serve as supply pastor for Christmas Eve and Dec 27, with duties starting Jan 1.
