Columbus Council OKs liquor license for Groeteke shop

Columbus City Council approved a retail package liquor license for Steven and Marilyn Groeteke to move from Towt Pamp 23rd Avenue to 3720 23rd Street, to be named The Vineyard. The license was unanimously supported amid other agenda items. The meeting approved traffic signal bids under 298 427, a downtown road project, and kept other zoning and planning items for later study.

Art Club Adorns Columbus Senior High With New Mural

Telegram to Install Computerized Type Production System

The Columbus Telegram signed with Computype Inc and Corp Graphic Corp to install seven video display terminals and a newsroom computer linking reporters and editors directly to a computer. The project aims to speed layouts, reduce errors, and shorten press time, with initial VDTs arriving in January and full setup by April.

Marik Earns Second Runnerup National Band Director Honor

Columbus Senior High School band director Larry D. Marik earned second runnerup for the ASEDA Standbury Award as the nation recognizes outstanding young directors. Previously named top young director in Nebraska and Northwest Area, Marik wins regional honors and will receive a state plaque and regional badge at a February 4 concert. He joined the American School Band Directors Association recently and began his band program at Lakeview High School in 1969, now at Columbus since 1974.

High winds and cooler hit state

A massive high pressure area over the western United States brought strong winds and cold temperatures to Nebraska. A travel advisory was issued for central Nebraska due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Temperatures midday ranged from the teens to the upper 20s with west readings in the low 20s.

Beouf for Christmas Promoted by Platte County Feeders

Platty County Feeders Association members and eight local firms joined the Beef for Christmas program in Columbus to promote locally produced beef.
