November auto sales rise to best since June
UPI reports November U.S. auto sales reached 720,772 cars, up nearly 6 percent from a year ago and the strongest November since 1973. Ford suffered an 11 percent drop due to a 28 day strike. GM rose 16 percent, Chrysler up 9 percent, while American Motors lagged 24 percent. Imports surged with Toyota Datsun and Honda setting records. Volkswagen also up 47 percent.

Pickup Truck Wreck Claims Driver Near Columbus
A fatal two-train collision east of Columbus killed the pickup driver who was alone on a county road dividing Platte and Colfax Counties. The southbound truck was struck first by a westbound 53-car Union Pacific freight led by Bill Schroeder of North Platte and dragged 365 feet. It was then hit by an eastbound 23-car UP freight steered by Paris France Jr. of North Platte, with the pickup ending up 2,603 feet from the initial impact. The victim’s identity remains withheld pending relatives’ notification.
