Colder air and light snow hit eastern Nebraska
An upper air disturbance and a secondary cold front brought light snow to eastern Nebraska today before a high pressure system moved in. Midday temperatures ranged in the 30s with lows in the teens to 20s overnight, Valentine reporting up to one inch of snow as of 6 a.m. Forecasts call for partly cloudy skies tonight and Friday with highs from the teens in the east to the upper 40s in the southwest.

Moisture totals exceed normal in Columbus during 1977
In Columbus the first 11 months of 1977 recorded 32.75 inches of moisture, over eight inches above the 24.36 normal for that period, with November adding 1.70 inches. The year’s total averages 24.98 inches. November contributed 1.68 inches of rain and 5.5 inches of snow. temperatures ran near normal, mean 37.8 degrees, about one degree below standard, with a daily high averaging 8.8 degrees over the month.

Karen Klug Named 1978 Feeder Queen at Kearney Convention
Karen Klug, Platte County Association representative and daughter of Kenneth Klug of rural Columbus, was named 1978 Feeder Queen at the Nebraska Livestock Feeders Association 34th annual convention in Kearney. She will represent Nebraska at the national convention in New Orleans in January. Klug, a 1976 Lakeview High School graduate and current sophomore at Platte Technical Community College, majors in fashion merchandising and has 10 years of 4-H involvement with beef and home economics projects. She received the 4-H Dare You Award and the Outstanding 4-H Service Award at the Rural Recognition Banquet in November. Other finalists included Kim Novak of Schuyler and Cindy Moore of Strauebensburg.

International Longshoremen in New Orleans rejected the three year deal while Philadelphia locals approved it and Baltimore dockworkers faced a federal court order to return to work.
