Hollywood Florida AP reports two plainclothes officers chasing a purse snatcher died when their unmarked cruiser slammed into a palm tree near a residential street after a chase from a shopping center. Officers Philip Yourman aged 30 and Byron Riley aged 26 were killed. a woman victim received minor injuries.
Lincoln Nebraska AP Dr Vance Rogers president of Wesleyan University says he has been approached about the possibility of seeking the 1974 Republican nomination for governor. He notes conversations with GOP insiders but has not studied the idea in depth. Rogers, 56, has led Wesleyan for 11 years. In 1963 he considered a GOP bid for Congress but chose not to pursue it.
Alliance Nebraska AP reports the Alliance Times Herald will raise home delivery prices Sept. 4 from 180 dollars per month to 2 dollars in Alliance and 12 to 15 dollars in surrounding area. The paper will give carriers 63 percent of the increase, or one half cent per newspaper daily, boosting carrier pay to 22 cents per paper.
