State board sets Sept 2 cutoff for two land buyers
Lincoln UPI report states the State Board of Educational Lands and Funds ruled Sept 2 as the final date for Faye Bessey and C Simmons to pay the purchase price on state school lands won at public auction in April 1969 for 66560 dollars. The case began with a bid of 79225 dollars in a dispute over valuation and sale legality, culminating in a 4 3 Supreme Court decision favoring the lower court, and a dissenter arguing the 1967 statute did not authorize gifting. The board has not yet required payment and has refunded the 20 percent down payment during court action. Distress signal 503 noted as a simple wireless code.
