Bogus New York finances exposed by SEC report
The SEC says New York City officials including Mayor Abe Beame used irregular accounting to mask debts in early 1975. They allegedly listed city owned property on tax rolls for income, inflating apparent revenue and concealing actual tax from city property. Practices began years earlier and continued through Beame’s terms as finance chief and mayor.
