Converge on Rome protests escape of Kappler
Hundreds of former resistance members and Jews gathered outside Rome’s synagogue to protest the escape of Nazi war criminal Herbert Kappler from a military hospital. Kappler, 70, serving a life term for mass killings, disappeared with his wife’s aid and was reportedly in West Germany. The crowd urged a full investigation and extradition, though West German law bars extraditing its own citizens.
