Butz recommendation loses out on grain inspection reform
White House budget officials say Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz failed to win support for privatized inspectors in the grain inspection system. Butz, in a Voice of America interview, predicted the administration would push a more limited reform with private inspectors under tighter federal supervision. He had previously favored a federal state system eliminating private inspectors.
